Do you need planning permission for Juliet balconies?
The Juliet balcony, also known as a Balconet, Balconette, Juliette or False Balcony – is a railing that is placed across a raised window, French doors or an opening to create a balcony effect.
Juliet balconies enable homeowners to add a balcony to their property without the additional expense and can be achieved without extending the building and, therefore, without requiring planning permission in most cases.
Juliet balconies take up very little space and as such can be a better solution for homes in more built-up residential areas. Most Juliet balconies fall under Permitted Development in the UK, and from experience, most of our projects didn’t require full planning permission.
However, we always suggest checking with your local authority and confirming the precise rules in your location before proceeding. For example, if you live in a conservation zone or if the balcony has a floor, you may only be permitted a Juliet balcony at the rear of your property.
Our Glass and Steel Juliet Balcony options:
Button Juliet Balcony
The glass button Juliet balcony is ideal for customers looking for uninterrupted views and a more industrial modern design. The button Juliet is also perfect if you are looking to fix the system into steel, concrete or masonry.
The glass provides clear unobstructed views and a minimalist, sleek appearance to enhance your property. The glass thickness is usually 17.5mm or 21.5mm thick toughened laminated glass but we will always advise the best option depending on the opening size to which the Juliet will be fixed.
Our customers can choose from clear, opaque, or coloured glass and the buttons are also available in several sizes.
Skyforce Juliet Balcony
The Skyforce Juliet balcony is particularly used for fall protection and can be mounted directly onto the window frame or masonry using a selection of fixings.
It can be mounted quickly with its slide-and-click system, or it can be mounted directly from the inside or outside onto the window frame or masonry. This system is suitable for plastic, aluminium, wooden, and metal frames.
Powder coating is also available in all RAL reference colours at an additional cost if you’d like to create a personalised design.
Professional Juliet Balcony
The balconette or Profesional Juliet balcony is the perfect finishing touch to any home or commercial building. It comes with a top and bottom rail in high-quality 316-grade stainless steel with matching clamps and many bespoke options.
The glass is available in a range of colours or an opaque finish and can be either toughened or toughened laminated glass to suit your property and situational requirements.
Railing Juliet Balcony
Our romantic steel Juliet balcony railing is a more cost-effective alternative to our glass designs and a great long-lasting solution. We offer a range of standard options which have all been designed and approved to comply with relevant regulations, but we can also manufacture bespoke systems, custom-designed to meet our customer’s needs.
This Juliet railing can be galvanized, and powder coated. Customers can specify any RAL colour of their choice for an extra charge. Standard powder coating colours: black and anthracite.
